What They're Looking For.

Must Have

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree or equivalent from an AVMA recognized school of veterinary medicine, Veterinarian license required, Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state and be eligible for licensure in the State of Florida, Minimum 5 years of experience with laboratory animal medicine or clinical veterinary practice (small or large animal)

Nice to Have

Additional advanced degrees (PhD, MS, etc.), ACLAM certification or board eligibility, ACVP certification or board eligibility may be considered depending on the candidate’s experience and institutional needs

What You'll Do.

Provide veterinary and peri-operative care to a wide variety of laboratory animal species to include after-hours, weekends and holidays., Assists and/or performs surgeries and procedures and prescribes treatment plans for injury or disease., Assist in the oversight of the institution’s preventative and colony health assessment programs., Conduct regular animal facility rounds for all species including documentation of rounds., Participates in development of policies and standard procedures to ensure quality and quantity of work performed meets or exceeds requirements., Trains and instructs veterinary staff in the proper care (and any new advancements) of animals., Ensure the facility is in compliance with all applicable regulations, guidelines and standards that relate to animal care and use (e.g.

, USDA, DoD, PHS, AAALAC, OLAW)., Oversees inventory of controlled substances and medical supplies and supervises the maintenance of medical equipment., Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets., Provides veterinary and administrative support for projects involving chemical, radiologic and biohazards., Assists in the development of procedures and SOPS to enhance operational standards and efficiencies., Supports the administrative functions of the IACUC such as: protocol review and pre-review, subcommittee participation, policy and guideline review, post-approval monitoring, investigator consultation, and semiannual and program reviews/inspections., Performs surgical support and provides anesthesia, surgical and analgesic technical expertise/advice to facilitate protocol development., May develop new or innovative surgical techniques or other procedural improvements appropriate to research studies., Assists in the development and delivers training for DVR and non-DVR personnel.

Training may include regulations, veterinary diagnostics, techniques and minor surgical procedures., Provides animal health care guidance for veterinary services personnel as required., May participate in the response to internal/external inspections and quality assurance audits of veterinary or animal welfare type content., Performs literature searches relating to veterinary subject matters., Makes recommendations and assists in establishing and enhancing veterinary and animal care standards., Performs special projects and assists with administrative efforts, as needed.
