What They're Looking For.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Environmental Studies, Education, Youth Development or related field or Equivalent Education (Associate's Degree and 2 years transferrable program/functional experience), Two (2) to three (3) years of experience working with youth in educational, community, or agricultural settings, Must have New York State Department of Environmental Conservation pesticide applicator certification, which can be obtained on the job within the first year, Knowledge of urban agriculture, food systems, or environmental education, Experience facilitating groups and managing youth activities, Organizational and communication skills, Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform light physical labor (occasional lifting, up to 30-40 lbs, and physical farm tasks), Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position, Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate
Nice to Have
Knowledge of horticulture, including floriculture, ornamentals, turf, and vegetables, Knowledge in entomology and plant pathology, Knowledge of pesticides and their use, including integrated pest management, Demonstrated ability to diagnose customers’ problems related to horticulture topics, Experience in community-based or nonprofit programming, Knowledge of food justice and community food systems, Certification in first aid/CPR, Experience with grant reporting or data tracking, Bilingual skills
What You'll Do.
Coordinate urban agriculture programs
and evaluation of youth-centered urban
Engage young people in hands-on learning experiences
Ensure programs are safe
Implement the Blocks in Bloom Grant
Provide educational programming for adults and youth in
Plan and plant homeowner gardens
Deliver established Horticulture programming to community groups
Deliver other established Horticulture programming and activities
Coordinate all administrative aspects of the Programs
Assist with marketing efforts for Horticulture
Supervise student interns
Coordinate the Master Gardener Program
Train Master Gardener Program volunteers
Supervise Master Gardener Program volunteers
Lead hands-on learning experiences in gardening
Lead hands-on learning experiences in food production
Lead hands-on learning experiences in composting
Maintain professional relationships with other agencies
Promote effective communication
Facilitate continued programming efforts
Transport program participants
Transport program materials and resources
Develop and pursue a professional development plan
Collaborate in activities that support Cornell Cooperative Extension
Perform other duties as assigned
Support the Association to maintain a safe working
Follow applicable federal
Follow Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard
Proactively prevent accidents/injuries
Communicate hazards to supervisors
