This posting is for Transportation Worker III in the Division 2 Pitt County Maintenance Unit. Workers will be expected to traverse steep and uneven terrain, work in extreme temperature conditions, perform manual labor road maintenance duties, and other assigned duties. Workers in this position will be expected to act upon both verbal and written communication to successfully complete assigned tasks. Work will consist of a wide range of progressively responsible maintenance tasks in the preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of State Maintained roads and roadside features. The position is required to operate a variety of highway construction and highway maintenance equipment. Work includes installing traffic and erosion control devices, operating a variety of hand and power tools, clearing right of way, performing preventive maintenance and repairs to pavements, shoulder maintenance, pipe installation or other drainage tasks, inventorying and tracking quantities used of materials, performing manual labor tasks and the operation of assigned heavy equipment.
