What They're Looking For.
Must Have
8–12+ years of professional software engineering experience, 3–5+ years in senior or technical leadership roles, Proven track record designing and delivering complex, scalable systems, Experience acting as the primary technical decision-maker for a team or domain, understanding of card payments, issuing programmes, or transaction processing in a regulated environment, Experience with PCI-DSS compliance or similar security/regulatory frameworks, experience leading end-to-end delivery of complex initiatives, Experience mentoring and developing engineers, proficiency in Java/Spring Boot, understanding of RESTful APIs, system integration patterns, data modelling using SQL and/or NoSQL databases, Good understanding of cloud platforms, Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies, Experience with observability and reliability tooling, communication skills
Nice to Have
Enthusiasm for adopting AI-assisted development tooling, Familiarity with crypto/fiat payment rails and issuer integrations, Experience working in high-growth or fast-scaling technology environments, Exposure to fintech, payments, or other high-availability transactional systems, Experience contributing to engineering strategy, hiring, or organisational scaling initiatives
What You'll Do.
Define and drive architecture for cards platform
Act as primary technical decision-maker
Lead design and delivery of systems
Own technical roadmap for cards engineering
Coordinate delivery across workstreams
Contribute hands-on to codebase
Mentor and develop engineers
Promote engineering best practices
Lead technical assessments with third-party providers
Remove technical blockers
Facilitate collaboration across squads
Represent cards engineering in forums
Partner with Product and Business on prioritisation
