These labs are scheduled to take place towards the end of November 2026, from 1:30-5:30pm. The Teaching Assistant will be required to explain techniques and theory to the students and proceed with short technical demonstrations. The Teaching Assistant is also responsible for instructing students on safe laboratory procedures. In the first session (4 hours) the Teaching Assistant will be required to perform negative staining experiments and prepare grids to subsequently observe in the Tecnai Spirit electron microscope at the Facility for Electron Microscopy (FEMR) at McGill. The samples used for the grid preparation will be phage samples purified by students in previous tutorials of this course. In the second section, the Teaching Assistant will bring the students to FEMR and will assist them in imaging their grids and samples in the Tecnai Spirit electron microscope.
