What You'll Do.
Provide leadership and supervision for clinical laboratory procedures
Provide leadership and supervision for quality assurance
Provide leadership and supervision for instrument maintenance
and monitor staff performance
Perform microbiological
molecular biological and immunological tests
Provide data for treatment and diagnosis
Verify specimen identification with physician’s orders
Prepare specimen for testing
Handle all specimens safely and carefully
Prepare pertinent patient data
Refer patient data to pathologists
Monitor staff productivity
Monitor quality of work
Initiate performance management processes
Address on-going performance issues
Recognize test inconsistencies

To learn how to apply for a faculty or staff position, please review this [tip sheet](https://my.it.miami.edu/wda/erpsec/tipsheets/ER_eRecruiting_ApplyforaJob.pdf). **CORE JOB SUMMARY** The Supervisor, Medical Technologists (H) provides leadership and supervision for clinical laboratory procedures, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance. **CORE JOB FUNCTIONS** Supervises, orients, trains, evaluates, and monitors on-the-job performance of staff responsible for performing microbiological, molecular biological and immunological tests on body specimens to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Verifies identification of specimen with physician’s orders. Prepares specimen for testing and handles all specimens in a safe and careful manner. Supervises all research and prepares all pertinent patient data and refers to pathologists for evaluation and sign-out. Assists in monitoring staff productivity and quality of work through proactive reviews of attendance and scheduling accuracy. Initiates performance management processes that address on-going performance issues. Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action and provides supervision to laboratory subordinates in resolution of similar problems. Runs quality-control tests according to procedure and maintains appropriate data recording. Seeks help from the section head and documents actions taken. Performs and reviews quality controls in testing and decides whether results are within acceptable ranges. Advises technologists and other healthcare providers on proper methods of collection of specimens. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University
