Job Overview In the absence of the classroom teacher, the Teacher Substitute will provide instruction, encourages student progress and manages the learning environment. Follow the lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher to provide an effective and appropriate educational program for assigned students. Assignments can be either on a day-to-day basis or long term. Substitute teaching in a long-term position may be required to prepare lesson plans and do other related work as required. Position Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Follow the lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher to provide an effective and appropriate educational program for assigned students Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school policy Continue as much as possible the routines and procedures for the school and classroom to which assigned Establish and maintain a sanitary, safe, orderly, attractive and positive learning environment for learning Report to office upon arrival at school; request clarification of school rules and procedures Grade papers and homework, complete accurate records and other required data and submit reports in a timely manner Maintain strict student and parent confidentiality Provide feedback to teacher; Include comments on the behavior of students, lessons completed and any possible changes in lesson plans Uphold all district policies, rules and procedures to which regular teachers are subject Determine if his/her services will be required for the next school day Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily.
