Must Have
5+ years of software engineering experience, dedicated Frontend specialist, strong, practical background in backend development, Expertise in React, hooks, state management, component-based architecture, Solid experience in Java for backend API development, ability to navigate and understand complex backend systems, participate effectively in on-call triage, occasional backend contributions, Hands-on experience leveraging agentic AI tools, AI coding assistants, improve engineering efficiency, Proven experience utilizing AI technologies, implement and build product features or solutions, Proficiency in frontend unit testing, automated end-to-end testing, Excellent communication skills
Nice to Have
Familiarity with streaming platforms like Kafka, understanding of highly distributed systems, Experience working on products that handle extremely high data throughput, Previous experience deeply involved in site reliability work, maintaining complex streaming pipelines

Logs constitute a core element of this platform. To begin understanding a system, the initial step is transmitting logs and other telemetry to New Relic. Our thousands of customers depend on their logs, analyzing petabytes of log data, to effectively detect and resolve issues. We are a heavily backend-focused team responsible for developing highly distributed, high-throughput data processing streaming components that consume and produce Kafka topics, built entirely in Java. Additionally, we develop the Java APIs that power the user experiences for log management. We also take ownership of our system's reliability, maintaining an active on-call rotation to support both our APIs and streaming services. We are seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer to provide strategic, technical leadership within this fast-growing team. While we are looking for a true Frontend specialist rather than a generalist "full-stack" developer, it is crucial that you have a solid backend background. Your primary focus will be leading frontend initiatives across Log Management. This includes leading the frontend work for Logs Intelligence—a new and critical suite of AI-driven innovations—as well as driving the development of new user experiences in other key product areas like Log Compliance and Log Ingestion features.
