Full Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to design, build, and operate highly available, scalable backend services for the Kindle E-reader platform. You will own critical cloud infrastructure that enables device security updates, content delivery, document sync, enterprise integrations, and productivity features for Kindle Scribe. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you will drive architectural decisions, raise the engineering bar, and mentor engineers — while shipping production code that directly impacts millions of customers. Key job responsibilities As a Senior Software Development Engineer on the team: You will design and implement large-scale, low-latency distributed services on AWS that power Kindle device-cloud interactions — including device registration, OTA update orchestration, content sync, and document management pipelines. You will own the architecture of backend systems that enable Kindle Scribe productivity features such as notebook sync, document import/export, annotation sharing, and enterprise collaboration workflows. You will drive the security-first design of cloud services that support rapid OS security patching, secure boot validation, certificate management, and enterprise device policy enforcement. You will build and operate APIs and microservices that integrate Kindle devices with enterprise ecosystems (e.g., corporate document stores, SSO/identity providers, MDM solutions). You will establish and enforce engineering best practices — including CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, comprehensive testing, operational runbooks, and on-call excellence — setting the standard for the team. You will mentor and technically guide SDEs across the team, conducting design reviews, code reviews, and driving a culture of operational ownership ("you build it, you own it"). You will own the operational health of your services end-to-end — driving excellence in availability, latency, cost-efficiency, and incident response. A day in
