What They're Looking For.
Must Have
Broad skills, knowledge and understanding of highway related design areas, including design codes (DMRB/MCDHW/TSRGD etc.) relevant to highway engineering, Knowledge of CDM and other H&S legislation, Hold a relevant College/University vocational qualification. (MEng/MSCEng/BSc/HNC and HND), Broad understanding of environmental requirements of highway schemes, Appropriate recent experience in highway engineering on Local Authority or National Highways, Understanding of environmental requirements of highway schemes
Nice to Have
Membership of an appropriate professional institution (ICE or CIHT), Registered with the Engineering Council and have obtained, or close to obtaining, professional chartership with their progressional body, Pavement Engineer Certificate from the institute of Asphalt Technology, Asset Management experience, Knowledge of the use of relevant computer design applications, Knowledge of the Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 8, Hold appropriate CSCS card registration, Proficient IT Skills relevant to Civil Engineering Design and Microsoft Office, Broad skills, knowledge/understanding of other highway related design areas, Licensed to drive in the UK or with reciprocal agreement, Recent experience of leading small design teams and coordinating interfaces with other disciplines

Deliver schemes in accordance with CPS Quality Management Processes and CPS internal standards
Work with the Project Manager to lead the internal Gateway reviews during the design phase
Manage and support all staff (internal and external) so to achieve design delivery to budget and programme
Review and check deliverables from internal and external designers
Be technically accountable for the design solutions
Engage with method engineering reviews to drive innovative solutions
Support the delivery of the business’ sustainability activities
Assist Engineers in carrying out site surveys on the network
Seek innovation and continual improvement in the delivery of schemes and techniques used in design and construction
Take part in detailed design workshops and provide a holistic viewpoint when Principal Designer scheme reviews are undertaken
Assist and support the Asset team with the 5 Year Asset Management Renewals Programme

Engage with multiple stakeholders across National Highway and Connect Plus; Require close working relationship with CPS Asset and PM teams; Manage and support all staff (internal and external); Review and check deliverables from internal and external designers; Develop relationships and engender trust at all levels of the Connect Plus Services organisation, service delivery, framework contractors and clients; Recent experience of leading small design teams and coordinating interfaces with other disciplines

### **Job Description** ## Overview The role will provide technical design input to proposing and detailing design solutions for upcoming highways pavement renewal schemes around the CPS (M25) network. There is a broad range of engineering design challenges across the M25 and the need for safe and efficient design solutions are fundamental for keeping the UK’s biggest, busiest and most critical road networks operational day in, day out. This role is expected to lead, manage and take ownership of investigations, detailed design and then certification of construction works across the M25 network. The role will be expected to assist with method engineering reviews with framework contractors and ensure the design detailing allows for safe, low-cost and efficient construction processes.
