What They're Looking For.
Must Have
Three (3) years’ experience in payroll processing in a large-scale complex environment, Knowledge and experience relating to payroll, human resources administration, finance or related fields acquired through post-secondary education (college or university degree) or equivalent experience, In-depth knowledge and experience using integrated human resource & payroll systems and software programs such as spreadsheets and databases, In-depth knowledge of federal and provincial laws, employment standards and other regulations related to payroll and compensation, Proficiency with payroll systems (e. g. , Workday, SAP, Banner, ADP) and understanding system functionalities, integrations, and reporting tools, Advanced knowledge of Excel, High level of accuracy in data entry, calculations, auditing, and problem resolution, Excellent attention to detail, Effective time management skills, Sound organizational skills, Ability to prioritize while multitasking with very firm deadline, Bilingualism — English/French (spoken and written)
Nice to Have
Accreditations in Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP), Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) or other related Human Resource certifications, Unionized environment experience, Knowledge of other software and systems such as Windows, word processors, presentation software, databases, email and the internet

Manage and resolve payroll
Ensure compliance with federal and provincial law

Complete detailed transaction analysis
Perform data auditing
Collaborate with stakeholders
Address payroll inquiries via formal & informal channels
Analyze Workday system functionality
Determine corrective actions for payroll accuracy
Review payroll errors and take immediate action
Process transactions within strict deadlines
Manage workload independently
Input and validate data for T4s
Audit pension adjustment
government earnings & deductions
Apply corrections to employee files
Respond to faculty questions regarding payroll costing allocations
Analyze earnings & benefits
Analyze and validate overpayment requests
Calculate payroll overpayments
Communicate payroll and tax implications to employees
Administer overpayment repayment plan
Monitor ongoing overpayment payroll deductions
Update repayment plans
Receive and process overpayment repayment amounts
Complete required system entries for payments
Respond to inquiries from internal stakeholders
Collaborate with Health & Wellness to process Progressive Return to Work plans
Manually calculate Semi-Monthly employee payroll and time off accruals
Evaluate and process employee leave requests
Verify eligibility based on legislation & university policies
Complete follow-up with employees on leave accruals and SUB Plan
Update files to ensure cohesive employee experience
Identify anomalies in employee time off data
Provide guidance on complex leave cases
Contribute to institutional projects and reporting requirements
Report and address system & business process anomalies
Collaborate in development
and documentation of system enhancements
revise and maintain procedure manuals and transaction records
