What They're Looking For.
Must Have
College diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent, 12–15+ years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering design, emphasis on layout design for heavy industrial and/or mining projects, Experience within a consulting engineering environment is required, Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a discipline lead or technical lead on large or complex projects in a supervisory role, Proficiency in relevant engineering and 3D design tools, analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills applied to practical engineering challenges, Fluency in English (spoken and written), communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams, Excellent written and verbal communication skills, Commitment to mentoring and developing junior staff
Nice to Have
Proven experience delivering projects in mining, heavy industrial facilities, mineral processing plants, or bulk material handling systems (considered a major asset)
What You'll Do.
Act as Layout Discipline Lead
Participate in engineering studies
Prepare design calculations
Produce design sketches
Oversee layout drawings
Perform trade-off studies
Review vendor drawings
Lead 3D model reviews
Ensure interdisciplinary coordination
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams
Provide technical leadership
Manage layout project teams
Prepare man-hour estimates
Contribute to cost estimates
Ensure technical accuracy
Conduct technical quality audits
Support construction activities
Participate in field engineering
Update equipment libraries
Develop design standards

Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams; Ensure interdisciplinary coordination with process, structural, civil, electrical, and instrumentation teams; Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure accurate and timely exchange of design information; Engage effectively with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams; Contribute to technical excellence within the group; Demonstrated people-management capabilities aligned with a collaborative, inclusive, and performance-driven work environment
Communication Scope
Fluency in English (spoken and written); communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams; Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Process & Methodology
Lead and manage large teams of designers, task assignment, work supervision, Prepare man-hour estimates, determine layout staffing requirements, Contribute to project cost estimates and budgeting activities, Assess professional effort, Provide clear visibility on progress, performance indicators (CPI, SPI), and Estimate to Complete (ETC)
