Full Job Description
About Us Standard Subsea is building the offshore robotics company. We are developing a fleet of unmanned surface vessels and subsea vehicles to put operations capacity where it's needed, without crewed vessels, without mobilization delays, and at a fraction of the cost. The Role We are hiring a senior mechanical engineer to take primary responsibility for execution of the mechanical design of our autonomous surface vessel platform. You will work directly with the CTO, who sets overall system architecture, and you will own major mechanical subsystems from detailed design through fabrication, integration, and field testing. This is a hands-on role for someone who has shipped hardware and knows where designs fail in the field. Responsibilities - Own detailed design and execution of major mechanical subsystems under the platform architecture - Translate system-level requirements into manufacturable mechanical designs - Produce CAD, drawings, and release packages for fabrication and assembly - Design structures, mounts, housings, and interfaces for marine loads and environments - Drive integration of mechanical systems with propulsion, electrical, and autonomy hardware - Support prototyping, assembly, and on-water testing - Diagnose field failures and iterate designs based on real operational data - Work with vendors and fabricators to close DFM and supply chain loops Qualifications - Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience - 4–8 years of experience designing and fielding mechanical systems in marine, robotics, aerospace, defense, or industrial contexts - Experience taking hardware from prototype to fielded system - Strong CAD and drawing discipline suitable for real fabrication - Comfortable working hands-on with hardware, tools, and test setups - Ability to operate independently while aligning with a system-level technical lead Strong Plus - Experience with small vessels, marine structures, or offshore equipment - Experience designing for corrosion,
