What They're Looking For.
Must Have
5+ years of deep Linux systems engineering (RHEL/CentOS, Debian/Ubuntu), Comfortable with the CLI, boot process, LVM, and systemd, Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, load balancing (HAProxy), and storage protocols (NFS, iSCSI, SAN), Heavy experience with virtualized environments, including resource allocation and performance troubleshooting, Proficient in Docker and Kubernetes (EKS), Expertise in Ansible for configuration management, Expertise in Terraform for managing both cloud resources and on-prem providers, Advanced proficiency in Bash, Advanced proficiency in Python for automating system tasks and data processing, Knowledge of OS hardening (SELinux/AppArmor), Knowledge of SSH key management, Knowledge of internal compliance auditing
Nice to Have
Ability to explain how containers interact with the underlying Linux kernel (cgroups/namespaces), Ability to plan the migration or hybrid-connectivity path between traditional VM-based workloads and container orchestration (K8s/Service Mesh), Ability to maintain unified visibility across physical hardware health and high-level application metrics (logs, Prometheus metrics, and traces), Ability to automate routine systems administration (patching, provisioning, backups) to ensure a "hands-off" datacenter experience, Ability to manage high-availability and DR strategies, including off-site backups, hardware redundancy, and stateful data integrity
