Must Have

Proven skills in communicating proficiently from the assigned language to English and vice versa., Accurate listening, speaking, reading and writing, reporting in both languages in a verbatim and efficient manner., Professional conduct and ethics in the course of performing interpretation and translation services., 1 year relevant experience with High School or Bachelor or equivalent or higher, IT-Computer Literacy

Prior experience in interpretation/translation is desirable.

What You'll Do.

Translate accurately and professionally

documents in relation to Registration (REG)

Refugee Status Determination (RSD)

Community Services and other Protection purposes for the UNHCR Representation in Thailand from the specific language assigned to the undersigned interpreter to English and vice versa.

Interpret during REG/RSD/RST/CS/Protection interviews/counselling sessions of asylum seekers/refugees.

Carry out interpretation for other UNHCR Offices/ staff members and/or delegations of resettlement countries in Bangkok when requested and with prior approval from the RSD Officer.

Interpret in the context of various Protection information sessions

training and related sessions including on best interest determination

Interpret telephone inquiries made by asylum-seekers/refugees/phone callers in the language assigned to the undersigned interpreters when instructed by the immediate Supervisor.

Report to the Supervisor on each call received for recording in the database

and further action by other responsible staff.

Perform other interpretation and translation functions as requested by the supervisors.

Interprets and/or translates from newspapers

Interprets oral conversations

discussions and interviews especially when attending meetings with high ranking officials

diplomats and others.

Travels with international staff on their missions to the field for interpretation and other assistance

both internal and external

some involving high-ranking officials and takes minutes/notes.

Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs formalities.

Responds to queries relating to the area of responsibility.

Support the identification and management of risks and seek to seize opportunities impacting objectives in the area of responsibility.

Ensure decision making in risk based in the functional area of work.
