Full Job Description
The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) provides a vibrant and nurturing environment for staff and students to carry out inter-disciplinary research in key areas such as Computational Materials Science, Characterisation Materials Science, Defence Composite Materials, Functional Composite Materials, Energy, Nanomaterials, Low Dimensional Materials, Biomaterials Materials, Biological Materials, Bioinspired Materials and Sustainable Materials. We are looking for a highly motivated Research Fellow to lead AI for Science (AI4S) research, to develop AI software powered by large language models (LLMs) for process engineering and materials discovery, to mentor students, and to contribute to grant writing and publications. **Key Responsibilities:** * Participate in the conduct of research project with research team members to ensure completion of deliverables * Develop LLM-based AI software to support process engineering and materials simulation and accelerate the discovery of novel materials * Mentoring students in academic research related to AI4S * Assist or write high quality reports and documents that consolidate research findings **Job Requirements:** * PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Process Engineering or related domains, with a research focus on LLMs. * At least 1 year of experience in AI4S. International collaboration experience is preferred. * Familiarity with legal and ethical compliance in AI4S. * Good written and oral communication skills. Candidates with publications in both computer science and materials science are preferred. * Proficiency in technical skills, including but not limited to Linux, Python, and PyTorch. * Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
