As an R&D Engineer Optical, you will join a collaborative R&D team in Andover, MA, contributing to the design and development of optical systems that help improve patient outcomes around the world. This is a great opportunity to build deep technical expertise while working in a regulated medical device environment. **What will you be doing?** * Supporting the design and analysis of optical components and subsystems including lenses, illumination systems, imaging systems and fiber optics * Performing optical modeling, simulation and tolerance analysis using industry standard tools * Assisting with laboratory setup, optical alignment and characterization of prototypes * Conducting optical performance testing and analyzing results to support design decisions * Collaborating with mechanical, electrical and systems engineers to integrate optical elements into complete medical device systems * Participating in design reviews, risk assessments and verification and validation activities * Supporting documentation and quality activities in line with FDA, ISO 13485 and internal quality processes **What will you need to be successful?** * Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics or Mechanical Engineering with an optomechanical focus * 0 to 3 years of relevant engineering experience, including academic projects or internships * Fundamental understanding of geometrical optics, illumination and introductory lens design * Exposure to optical simulation tools and hands on laboratory experience * Strong analytical, problem solving and communication skills The anticipated base compensation range for this position is $85,750 - $128,750 USD annually.
