You’ll lead with purpose, breaking down barriers to innovation in a more connected, compassionate world. # **A Day in the Life** As a R&D Engineer I at Medtronic Articulating Technologies, you will get the opportunity to develop advanced medical devices in order to enable next generation surgical procedures. You will gain knowledge and experience covering the full engineering domain of product and process development from conceptual design up to market introduction and scale-up. In a team of engineers, you will work on design, development and testing of surgical instruments and the development of their related manufacturing processes. You will improve product performance and manufacturability by calculating, modelling, prototyping and testing. Additionally, by developing processes to a world-class performance level by means of lean six sigma, you will help optimizing cost and consistency. Furthermore, you will get the chance to master high-tech manufacturing processes such as laser cutting, cleaning, laser welding and assembly. During the traineeship, you will be part of our talented team of specialists, and you will learn from our experts who will help you to develop yourself towards your role as Manufacturing or Research and Development Engineer. **Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:** * Perform engineering analyses, calculations, and modelling to evaluate product performance, reliability, and manufacturability * Support development and optimization of manufacturing processes, including technologies such as laser cutting, laser welding, cleaning, and assembly * Build and test prototypes, execute experiments, and analyse results to support design improvements and technical decision-making * Assist in designing surgical instruments and related components, supporting new product development
