Full Job Description
The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena, CA, is looking to hire an Applied Scientist on the Device Team, focused on integration R&D for superconducting quantum processors. You will join a multi-disciplinary team of theoretical and experimental physicists, materials scientists, and hardware and software engineers working at the forefront of quantum computing. You should have deep expertise in the design, fabrication, and characterization of superconducting quantum devices, with a strong understanding of how materials, process integration, and device architecture impact qubit coherence and performance. Candidates with a track record of original scientific contributions in superconducting qubit coherence, thin film materials, or Josephson junction engineering will be preferred. We are looking for candidates with strong scientific and engineering principles, resourcefulness and a bias for action, superior problem solving, and excellent communication skills. Working effectively within a team environment is essential. As an Applied Scientist at CQC, you will be expected to drive integration R&D from concept through hardware demonstration and stay abreast of advances in superconducting quantum hardware. Key job responsibilities You will work at the unit cell level to integrate and evaluate new fabrication process modules and device design changes for superconducting quantum processors. This includes designing and executing experiments to assess performance impacts, investigating unexpected results through rigorous analysis and follow-on experiments, and leveraging electromagnetic and circuit-level simulations to interpret findings and connect observations to underlying physical mechanisms. You will coordinate with production and cross-functional teams on engineering lots, short-loop experiments, and prototyping runs to build the scientific foundation for next-generation processor integration at CQC.
