Knowledge of cooperative or committee-driven research programs, familiarity with transportation research sponsors and policy environments, Understanding of the National Academies’ mission, structure, and culture, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, Ability to negotiate funding, Ability to manage high-risk or complex research initiatives, Ability to train, develop, and support staff, Ability to operate with substantial independence, sound judgment, and discretion, Ability to solve complex problems, Ability to work effectively in team-based settings, Ability to perform effectively in complex, high-impact environments, Ten years of related professional experience, five of which were in a supervisory capacity, Demonstrated impact on the advancement of science or policy, Significant experience managing applied research projects or programs, Demonstrated experience supervising and developing professional staff

What You'll Do.

Provide leadership for assigned program area

Manage diverse portfolio of research projects

Develop overall budget and staffing requirements

Ensure successful project delivery

Maintain internal and external relations

Contribute to leadership decision-making

Lead staff and manage team performance

Oversee project portfolios

Resolve complex issues

Engage with volunteers and sponsors

Develop materials to support volunteer work

Plan and facilitate meetings

Advise on portfolio performance

Translate priorities into work plans

Oversee quality assurance efforts

Oversee financial management of program area

Support volunteer committees and research panels

Serve as primary point of contact for sponsors

Lead project-level briefings

Address sponsor concerns

Maintain productive working relationships with volunteers

Prepare executive-level written materials

Communicate clearly and effectively

Collaborate across CRP teams
