What You'll Do.
Set up and operate wire drawing machines
Position and secure dies
Lift coil of wire onto feed reel
Thread wire through dies
Coat wire with lubricant
Inspect and measure drawn wire
Perform tensile strength tests
Inspect machine and equipment
Make minor maintenance repairs
Report maintenance or safety problems
Determine size of wire
Verify machine dies are correct sizes
Check dies with micrometer
Check rod or breakdown wire
Straighten tangled coils
Weld the top of new material
Thread pointed end through die
String up the machine
Gauge wire with micrometer
Operate tensile and torsion machine
Check optical temperatures
Check weights of carriers or spools
Check wire tolerances
Record wire diameters
Maintain proper lubricants
Remove spool or coil from machine
Tie up bundle or spool
Place material on pallets or skids
Check tools and auxiliary equipment
Perform minor maintenance
Perform safety inspections
Correct safety problems
Housekeeping in the area
Package material according to customer specifications
Prepare material for shipment
Load and unload trucks
Keep material in neat and orderly manner
Inspect forklifts daily
Log forklift inspection
Monitor and maintain fluid and fuel levels
Operate forklifts safely
Assure finished products meet quality standards
Assist other employees

Positions and secures specified dies in the dieholder, using hand tools. Lifts coil of wire onto feed reel and threads it through dies. Coats wire with lubricant to facilitate the drawing machine and starts machine. Inspects and measures drawn wire to verify conformance to specified shape, size and resistance, using instruments such as wire gauges and micrometers, and replaces worn dies by using hand tools. Performs tensile strength and other tests and records test data on proper form.
