What They're Looking For.
Must Have
Bachelor's degree in industrial or manufacturing engineering. 4+ years of industrial engineer, operations engineer, manufacturing engineer, or project engineer in a manufacturing environment experience. Experience with process improvement methodologies and data-driven problem solving. Experience managing projects from conception to completion. Analytical skills with ability to use data to drive decisions. Written and verbal communication skills in English (business level). Written and verbal communication skills in Japanese (JLPT N4+ level).
Nice to Have
Knowledge of AutoCAD, VBA, and SQL at the intermediate level. Knowledge of process improvement, ideally including Lean, Kaizen and Six Sigma. Experience working with material handling equipment (MHE) safety standards in accordance with OEM requirements. Experience working with multiple groups of stakeholders. Experience using modeling, project management, CAD and software programming tools. Experience building cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders across the organization to act without having a direct reporting relationship. Knowledge of safety standards and ergonomic design principles. Demonstrated ability to think big and challenge conventional approaches.
What You'll Do.
Lead the design, piloting, and deployment of equipment and processes that measurably improve safety, ergonomics, operational cost, capacity, and throughput across AMZL Japan delivery stations.
Create, maintain, and improve design process standards to ensure consistency in equipment specifications and operational processes across the Japan network.
Lead multiple concurrent projects from concept through implementation, coordinating with stakeholders across Engineering, Operations, Tech, and external suppliers.
Identify operational pain points through site visits and data analysis, then develop and validate creative engineering solutions.
Serve as the technical subject matter expert for assigned areas, delivering regular progress updates and recommendations to leadership.

Amazon Logistics (AMZL) is building a world-class last mile operation in Japan. AMZL aims to exceed customer expectations by ensuring orders are delivered quickly, accurately, and cost-effectively. The Amazon Logistics Japan Process Engineering team is seeking a Process Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will support the standardization and optimization of our Last Mile delivery network to meet safety, customer experience, productivity, quality, and cost goals. The successful candidate will lead optimization of AMZL Delivery Stations by driving process innovations, developing safe and efficient equipment, and creating infrastructure design standards. You will partner closely with regional Operations and Operations Support teams to identify best practices and establish them as JP AMZL network design standards. This role involves continuous communication with local functional business owners and technical Engineering teams at the World-Wide level. You will continuously develop, pilot, formalize, and deploy design changes while supporting prioritization of JP and WW continuous improvement initiatives. This role is based in Tokyo. The position requires regular domestic and international travel (approximately 25% of work time). Key job responsibilities 1.
