The NMR team is accountable for all NMR applications in support of drug discovery and development from lead identification to marketing authorization applications. This includes structural characterization of new chemical entities, synthetic intermediates, impurities, and degradants, characterization of physical form with solid state NMR, as well as development of NMR methodology for novel applications in biologics. The NMR team maintains seven NMR instruments ranging from 400 MHz to 700 MHz including solid state NMR capability, and also five additional walk-up NMR’s for use within Medicinal Chemistry and Process Chemistry groups. The NMR team sits within a broader, multi-disciplinary analytical group responsible for structural characterization of small molecule synthetic drugs and biologics such as monoclonal antibodies by mass spectrometry, spectroscopy, and other biophysical techniques as well as stress testing/forced degradation studies.
