Amazon is seeking a talented and motivated Principal Applied Scientist to develop tactile sensors and guide the sensing strategy for our gripper design. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in sensor development, analysis, testing and integration. This candidate must have the ability to work well both independently and in a multidisciplinary team setting. Key job responsibilities - Author functional requirements, design verification plans and test procedures - Develop design concepts which meet the requirements - Work with engineering team members to implement the concepts in a product design - Support product releases to manufacturing and customer deployments - Work efficiently to support aggressive schedules Basic Qualifications: - PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field - Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language - 10+ years of experience selecting, designing and integrating sensors into robotic systems - Expert in sensor technologies, especially optical sensing - Deep understanding of sensor sensitivities (e.g. to thermal conditions, specular conditions, etc) and nonlinearities - Understanding of the durability and resilience of these sensors - Hands on experience crafting proof-of-concept models, building prototypes and debugging subsystems
