What You'll Do.
Collect blood specimens by venipuncture or capillary puncture.
Perform outpatient EKGs.
Verify patient collection and test preparation criteria.
Instruct patients in specimen collection and handling.
Sort and transport specimens and requests.
Obtain and process laboratory specimens for testing.
Provide clerical and receptionist services to the lab.
Perform laboratory collection and processing procedures.
Monitor patients for adverse reactions.
Perform special specimen collections.
Organize specimen collections and document deliveries.
Ascertain specimens meet quality testing criteria.
Perform computer functions for patient encounters and order entry.

Answer telephone inquiries and direct questions.
Greet outpatients and assist with questions.
Prepare samples for reference laboratories.
Receive specimens from pneumatic tube system.

Performs outpatient EKGs at the Outpatient Center and as necessary within the hospital. Verifies that patients meet collection and test preparation criteria. Instructs patients as required in the collection and handling of urine and other specimens. Sorts and transports specimens, requests and results to appropriate destinations. Obtain and process laboratory specimens for testing. Provide clerical and receptionist service to the lab. **_MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS_****:** **EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:** 1\. High school diploma or equivalent (GED) 2\. Completion of Phlebotomy Certification Course, Medical Assistant Program, or graduate of a nursing program. **_PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS_****:** **EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:** 1\.
