Must Have
High school diploma or equivalent required, Ability to perform all testing required at our satellite locations, Knowledge of medical terminology, Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines, Knowledge of laboratory requirements, Skills in phlebotomy techniques with adult, pediatric, and geriatric patients, Computer/data entry skills, Phone etiquette, Attention to detail, Ability to critically think, Ability to multitask, Ability to maintain accuracy during periods of frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment, Consistently demonstrate the ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner, Consistently demonstrate the ability to read/follow procedures accurately, Demonstrates competency in all areas of adult phlebotomy, Demonstrates competency in all areas of pediatric phlebotomy, Demonstrates competency in all areas of infant phlebotomy, Demonstrates competency in performing skin punctures, Demonstrates competency in performing bleeding times including entering the result in the LIS and the logbook, Correct Order of Draw for multiple tube collection, Using good judgment in evaluating specimens using established protocol, Demonstrating application of an adequate bandage to puncture site with explanation of puncture site care to patient
Nice to Have
Drug screen collection preferred, Phlebotomy Technician Certification through the National Health Career Association (NHA) may be required for specific locations based on operational needs, CLA Certificate preferred
What You'll Do.
Use appropriate aseptic technique to draw blood cultures
Process Stat specimens according to Starling Physicians SOP
Prepare collection containers with appropriate preservatives for patients
Give instructions for proper collection of specimens at home (Urine & Stool)
Properly measure and record a volume for a 24-hr collection
Properly collect a COC Urine Drug Screen
Properly administer and collect a H. pylori Breath test
Properly handle orders on minors
Use the correct procedure for completing paperwork and labeling of specimen for OVH Blood Bank specimens
Process satellite specimens and deliver them to the appropriate department
Monitor inventory levels and follow appropriate protocol for replenishing supplies
Delete/cancel orders as necessary with full documentation of reason
Ensure proper patient charge deletion according to departmental policy
Recall patients for follow-up procedures or error correction as required
Document callbacks in the lab logbook
Utilize LIS for all applicable functions to perform job duties
including downtime procedures
Adapt work schedule to meet emergency staffing needs
Check-in a patient in a satellite lab
including arriving the patient on the day-list
Process lab and office collected specimens for transport to the main lab by courier
Contact a courier for a Stat pickup in a satellite office
and enter a result for a Rapid Strep and or Hemoccult test in the LIS
Notify physician of critical (positive) result
Train new staff in proper lab policies and procedures
