The Brief

“PhD Intern at Viridien. Skills: Sparse geophysical acquisition, Sparse geophysical imaging, Unmanned and autonomous vessels and drones utilization, New sensing techniques, Processing and imaging software and algorithms. Develop optimal acquisition geometries and corresponding processing/imaging solutions for sparse ocean-bottom node systems. Investigate processing and imaging methods for sparse and irregularly sampled seismic data”

What You'll Achieve.

Achieve a PhD degree; Future offshore mapping and monitoring systems must deliver high-quality subsurface information at lower cost and with greater operational flexibility than conventional seismic surveys; Sparse marine acquisition systems can provide reliable, high-resolution subsurface information using fewer sensors, smaller sources and more autonomous operations

Industry & Context.

Earth data
Problems you'll solve

Resolve complex natural resource, digital, energy transition and infrastructure challenges; Leaner and less energy demanding solutions that do not materially compromise subsurface imaging quality; More information from less equipment, fewer people offshore and lower acquisition cost

Eligibility Requirements

Significant time at NTNU in Trondheim for academic courses, Possible travel to the offices of Reach Subsea in Bergen and Haugesund to participate in field tests

What They're Looking For.

Must Have

Master's degree in Geophysics, Mathematics, Physics, Astrophysics/Astronomy, Earth Sciences and Natural Sciences with a Physics specialisation, Less than 18 months of industry experience

What You'll Do.

Develop optimal acquisition geometries and corresponding processing/imaging solutions for sparse ocean-bottom node systems

Investigate processing and imaging methods for sparse and irregularly sampled seismic data

Work towards integration of DAS into the processing flow of Permanent Reservoir Monitoring systems

Evaluate the performance of small seismic sources for monitoring applications

Investigate and field test autonomous and unmanned systems for low-cost marine acquisition

Combine seismic and micro-gravity measurements for improved reservoir and CCS monitoring

Develop workflows for passive imaging/monitoring using sparse sensing systems

How You'll Work.

Team & Collaboration

Working and learning alongside Viridien’s processing and imaging R&D experts; Cooperating with the marine acquisition experts at Reach Subsea; Leveraging the geological and geophysical expertise of AkerBP and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)
