What They're Looking For.
Must Have
6 to 8+ years of progressive HR experience, direct hands-on exposure to payroll administration, employee relations, benefits, HR operations, Demonstrated ability to process full-cycle payroll, serve as a backup processor in a semi-monthly payroll environment, working knowledge of California wage and hour law, multi-state HR experience, Experience conducting and documenting workplace investigations, managing sensitive employee relations matters, Benefits administration experience, Experience supervising or mentoring direct reports in an HR function, Proficiency with Paylocity or a comparable HRIS, Comfort with data and reporting, Excellent written and verbal communication skills, Highly adaptable and effective in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to accuracy and confidentiality
Nice to Have
SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification, Experience with API integrations involving Paylocity or Greenhouse, Background working in sales-driven or high-volume operational environments, experience with Greenhouse ATS, experience with Bswift, Demonstrated experience building HR workflow automations or integrations using tools such as Google Apps Script, Zapier, Slack Bots, Supabase, Claude Code, or Cursor, with real HR use cases to speak to, PowerBI experience or the ability and eagerness to learn, collaborator with the ability to build relationships across functions including IT, Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development, and Finance, ability to present complex HR topics clearly to managers and employees at all levels, priorities shift quickly

Own core HR functions
Serve as trusted partner to managers
Supervise People Operations Coordinator
Supervise Benefits and Payroll Specialist
Act as trusted advisor to managers
Guide managers through sensitive employee situations
Conduct thorough internal investigations
Review termination requests
Drive proactive performance management
Conduct semi-monthly reviews of sales team performance
Monitor attendance patterns
Serve as backup payroll processor
Serve as internal subject matter expert on California wage and hour law
Ensure compliance with multi-state employment law
Partner with Accounting
Identify compliance gaps
Oversee benefits administration
Build and maintain relationships with benefits brokers
Partner with brokers and leadership on annual plan design
Assist employees directly with benefits questions
Ensure plan compliance
Own end-to-end new employee onboarding
Ensure all onboarding logistics are completed
Continuously evaluate and improve onboarding process
Serve as key liaison between People Operations and IT
Own and manage HR technology stack
and implement workflow automations
Bring real HR use cases to the table
Lead or contribute to HR system integrations
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures
Leverage PowerBI and other reporting tools
Track and report on key HR metrics
Build and maintain regular reporting cadences
Directly supervise and develop People Operations Coordinator
Directly supervise and develop Benefits and Payroll Specialist
Champion TaxRise's culture and values
Act as a change agent
Ensure all People Operations policies and practices reflect current employment law
