What They're Looking For.
Must Have
At least 2 years experience in payroll tax, At least 2 years experience with Multi-State payroll (5, 000+ employees), At least 2 years experience with Local Taxes, At least 2 years experience with Tax Agency Relations, Understanding of the gross to net calculation inclusive of pre/post tax deductions and taxable benefits, understanding of end to end payroll and payroll tax laws and regulations
Nice to Have
Associate degree, Professional certification such as FPC or CPP, 5+ years experience in Payroll Tax, 5+ years experience with tax agency relations, Workday Payroll, ADP SmartCompliance, Leadership experience, Demonstrated customer service skills, attention to detail, and decision making skills, Accustomed to fast paced environment, desire to grow and learn, Familiarity with pay and benefit programs, Proficient experience working with Google Suite
What You'll Do.
Support U.S.
payroll tax team, Keep Capital One U.S.
payroll tax accounts in good standing, Timely and accurate tax setup in Workday payroll system and ADP Smartcompliance, State/local tax account maintenance, Overall compliance with applicable laws and regulations, Create efficiencies through continuous improvement, Oversee the maintenance of all state and local tax withholding registrations and employer account numbers, Analyze root cause of escalated tax notices, Develop corrective action plans for tax notices, Maintain penalty and interest expense at industry leading levels, Research, document, and resolve tax account discrepancies promptly, Establish working relationships with internal partners, Identify, create, and deliver associate pay impact communications due to tax law changes, Ensure timely and accurate employee tax setup in payroll system, Complete a gross-to-net pay calculation outside of the payroll system, Assist other Capital One HR Partners to resolve errors and maintain or update accurate information in the payroll system, Assist in year-end W-2 preparation, bonus payroll, and equity processing.

Full Job Description
Payroll Tax Compliance Lead ****Summary:**** The U.S. Payroll Tax Compliance Specialist supports the U.S. payroll tax team to deliver on critical payroll activities. These activities include, but are not limited to, keeping Capital One U.S. payroll tax accounts in good standing, timely and accurate tax setup in the Workday payroll system and ADP Smartcompliance, state/local tax account maintenance, and overall compliance with applicable laws and regulations. ****Responsibilities:**** * Supports the team’s critical functions with an emphasis on creating efficiencies through continuous improvement * Oversee the maintenance of all state and local tax withholding registrations and employer account numbers with the goal * Analyze root cause of escalated tax notices and work with the team to develop corrective action plans. Maintain penalty and interest expense at industry leading levels * Work closely with tax vendor to ensure all tax account discrepancies are researched, documented, and resolved promptly * Establish strong working relationships with internal partners including corporate tax dept, tax audit, and payroll input providers * Identify, create, and deliver associate pay impact communications due to tax law changes * Supports the team’s processes to ensure timely and accurate employee tax setup in payroll system * Ability to complete a gross-to-net pay calculation outside of the payroll system and explain to associates with questions about their pay * Assists other Capital One HR Partners, as needed, to resolve errors and maintain or update accurate information in the payroll system * Assists in year-end W-2 preparation, bonus payroll, and equity processing ****Basic Qualifications:**** * High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification * At least 2 years experience in payroll tax * At least 2 years experience with Multi-State payroll (5,000+ employees) * At least 2 years experience with Local Taxes * At least 2 years experience with Tax Agency Relations *
