Must Have

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, 5+ years of payroll experience, including leadership or ownership of payroll processes, hands-on experience with Workday Payroll, Demonstrated experience working in a SOX- compliant or public company environment, Solid accounting knowledge, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations, Experience with internal controls, audit support, and documentation, Attention to detail, analytical skills, and risk awareness

Nice to Have

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), CPA or public-company accounting experience, Experience partnering with Internal Audit and External Auditors, Has supported SOX remediation or control redesign

Maintain documented payroll procedures

Enforce segregation of duties across payroll processing

and posting activities

Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet accounts (wages payable

accrued compensation)

and year-end close activities related to payroll

Review payroll accruals and ensure accurate period-end financial reporting

Serve as control owner for payroll-related SOX controls

Execute and evidence payroll controls

including: Payroll register review and sign-off

GL reconciliation reviews

Variance analysis and investigation

Access and change control validations

Maintain audit-ready documentation for internal and external auditors

Respond promptly to audit inquiries

Identify control gaps or deficiencies and lead remediation efforts

Participate in SOX risk assessments and control design discussions

Ensure compliance with federal

and local wage and hour laws

Oversee payroll tax filings

and statutory reporting

Coordinate with third-party vendors and tax providers

Address notices and inquiries from taxing authorities

Manage and mentor payroll staff

Drive continuous process improvement while maintaining SOX integrity

The Payroll Manager partners closely with Finance, Accounting, HR, Internal Audit, and External Auditors to maintain a well-controlled payroll environment.
