Must be able to attend required orientation classes during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm for the first 2 weeks, May be required to support multiple nursing units, May be required to sit with patients on suicide precautions or confusion, Ability to perform responsibilities in a fast-paced environment, May be exposed to infectious diseases, biohazardous and hazardous materials, including regulated medical wastes, and combative patients, Prolonged periods of sitting, visualizing computer screen and using keyboard may be necessary, May be required to work at multiple Carilion facilities, Physical requirements include lifting, prolonged periods of standing, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking

Must Have
High school diploma or equivalent education, Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills, Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation
Nice to Have
Previous experience in direct patient care, Certified Nursing Assistant, AHA BLS-HCP
What You'll Do.
Take patient's blood pressure
Assist patients with bathing
Assist patients with meals
Assist patients with toileting
Assist patients with ambulation
Provide one-on-one care
Perform basic clerical services
Perform technical clinical services
Document and report patient observations
Contribute to performance improvement activities
Participate in unit quality surveillance
Participate in unit shared governance
Cover lunch assignments
Review medical record for outstanding orders
Notify nurse of stat orders
Order department/unit supplies
Stock/organize supplies
Assist with customer service
Process equipment between patients
Operate general office equipment
Follow procedures for equipment repairs
and discharge processes
Coordinate patient flow
Assist with registration
Monitor cleanliness of waiting rooms
Perform safety/environmental rounds
Participate in sitter process
Assist with maintaining regulatory compliance
Conduct nonsterile wound care dressings
Replace and remove saline locks
Do colostomy bag changes

You will provide nursing care that includes taking the patient's blood pressure, checking their oxygen levels and temperature, as well as assisting patients of all sexes and genders with bathing, meals, toileting, ambulation, and other basic needs. The Patient Care Tech/Nursing Assistant role can include one-on-one care of patients on suicide or safety precautions. Successful candidate MUST BE able to attend required orientation classes during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm for the first 2 weeks. These classes are mandatory! **10 West is a 28 bed Medical-Surgical unit primarily consists of the geriatric population with a wide range of medical diagnoses. Together we work as a team to ensure the needs of our patients are met. The care we provide includes assistance with activities of daily living and maintaining a safe and comfortable space to heal as our patients transition home or to skilled-care facilities.** This position is part time, working the night shift with every other weekend and rotating holidays As part of the health care team, the Patient Care Technician performs basic clerical and technical clinical services relating to the care, cleanliness, safety, and comfort for patients of all ages.
