Full Job Description

Works under the direction of a Supervisory Legal Assistant to review files and documents for a variety of criminal or civil cases to become familiar with the issues and identify pertinent material. * Establishes and maintains an effective system of compiling, indexing, and organizing this information and its sources. * Participates and assists in preparation for trial by compiling, organizing, and indexing various trial documents. Marks and identifies trial documents and drafts a list of documents offered at trial. * Range of legal tasks include, but are not limited to copying, mailing, closing files, maintaining pleadings and maintaining a calendar system for assigned attorneys which accurately keeps track of due dates for pleading, hearings, and court appearances and other document and meeting deadlines. * Maintain electronic case files which are organized, current, accessible, and retrievable and mains integrity of data inputted into the case management system. * Search and extract legal references in libraries and computer-data banks. * Review and summarize information in prescribed format on case precedent and decisions. * Search and extract legal references in libraries and computer-data banks. * Assists AUSAs by preparing, scheduling, reviewing and organizing discovery, notifying, and managing witnesses. Aids in organizing evidence for production as discovery and for use in trial. Required Qualifications: * Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location. * Requires paralegal certificate, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study.
