What They're Looking For.
Must Have
backend engineering experience with modern technologies like TypeScript, NodeJS, NestJS, Python and SQL, familiarity with modern cloud infrastructure, shipped meaningful systems before, whether at a company, in a venture, or in side projects that demonstrate your initiative, write code that runs unattended in production, build the observability that proves it works, design a clean data model, build a pipeline, and ship a reporting layer, articulate ideas clearly, document thoroughly, approach challenges with creativity and pragmatism, finding elegant solutions that balance technical constraints with operational realities
Nice to Have
Fintech or Payments Background: Previous experience with payments infrastructure, merchant of record models, billing systems, payouts rails, or compliance engineering., Compliance or Risk Engineering: Worked on KYB/KYC systems, AML pipelines, fraud detection, or risk scoring in a production environment., Internal Tools Experience: You've built operational tooling for non-engineering teams and know what good ops UX feels like., Entrepreneurial Experience: You've built and monetized your own projects or ventures, bringing firsthand understanding of the product lifecycle., Execution Focus: While you appreciate great architecture, you prioritize shipping and iterating over endless conceptualizing.

ABOUT THE ROLE As an Operations Engineer at Creem, you'll apply your engineering expertise to build the internal systems that power our financial infrastructure day to day. Think of this as a product engineer role with a focus on operations, you'll take plans from our compliance and operations leads and turn them into robust, scalable systems that the team relies on. You'll build the tooling behind every critical operational workflow at Creem: how we verify merchants, how we score risk, how we move money, how we detect fraud, and how we keep our processes auditable. Your work transforms manual operational toil into structured, automated systems that scale with the business. You'll partner closely with the operations and compliance teams, translating their domain expertise into shipped systems. They define what needs to happen and why; you define how it gets built and ship it. Strong opinions on implementation are welcome and expected. You'll develop with a relentless focus on delivering functionality that drives meaningful operational outcomes. Your decision-making will be informed by direct collaboration with the people running these processes every day, ensuring the systems you build actually solve the problems they were built for. This position carries the same ownership ethos we hold across Creem: you own the systems you build end-to-end. You have the latitude to leverage AI automation to amplify your impact, building and orchestrating agents that extend your capabilities so you can focus on the highest-value engineering work.
