Full Job Description
MEMBER OF TECHNICAL STAFF: BACKEND Monk is an AI-native accounts receivable platform for B2B companies. We automate billing, collections, and payments so finance teams can turn outstanding invoices into cash, faster. We believe the AR stack is broken and the finance function deserves much better. We are bringing AI, speed, and real craftsmanship to a space that has been ignored for too long. We are looking for a backend engineer to join us in NYC in person. You will own the foundational systems that everything else runs on: the data layer, the integrations, the AI execution environment, and the infrastructure that has to work every time money moves. We do not care about your education, age, or past titles. All that matters is whether you can build systems that scale, stay up, and get faster as we grow. WHAT YOU WILL DO - Own and advance the backend platform that powers Monk's platform - Design and operate the integration layer across ERPs, payment processors, banks, and accounting systems. - Architect data pipelines that ingest, normalize, and reconcile financial data across dozens of customer environments with different schemas, edge cases, and failure modes - Own system reliability. Monitoring, alerting, incident response, and the kind of operational rigor that means customers never notice when something goes wrong - Drive our security and compliance infrastructure: SOC 2, encryption, access controls, audit logging. Build it into the system, not bolted on after the fact - Make the systems easy to debug. - Set the technical bar. WHO YOU ARE - 4+ years building and operating production backend systems. You have built, broke, and scaled them yourself. - A T-Shaped engineer. Deep in at least one thing, broad enough to advance the rest, and able to do this in Typescript/Node. - Expert in Postgres, AWS, Vercel, data processing pipelines, observability. - Understand technical tradeoffs that you are making and when you must improve.. - AI-native, not AI-dependent. You
