Must Have
One to two years’ experience as a medical transcriptionist, Good understanding of the English language and grammar, Medical terminology and anatomy and physiology as pertaining to pathology, Able to work under short deadlines, Must be comfortable using computers and word-processing software, Able to type 40 to 50 words per minutes
Nice to Have
Completed postsecondary training in medical transcription
What You'll Do.
Works in the pathology department reviewing and editing surgical pathology gross descriptions and final diagnoses
prepared by the pathologist assistants using dragon software.
Ensuring that the transcription and grammar is correct
and has a consistent style.
Types surgical pathology final reports into the laboratory information system.
Ensuring outside consult reports are typed in a timely manner into the patient’s pathology report.
Coordinates frozen section procedures between the operating room and the pathology department.
Packaging slideslock requests to various outside hospitals for 2nd opinions.
Responsible for accessioning surgical and consult specimens
REFERRING PHYSICIAN assignments matches with the correct patient.
Reviews and edits any incorrect grammar
date of service on the gross description.
Updating various logs (consult
patient demographics)
Review and edit working drafts
prepared by speech recognition software
making sure that the transcription is complete
and has a consistent style
Translate medical standard abbreviations from the referring physician’s clinical history into the appropriate long form suitable for a pathology report
Proof-read and identify inconsistencies
and missing information within a report that could compromise patient care
Follow up via phone or email with the healthcare provider to ensure the accuracy of the information as per the requisition if needed
Follow patient confidentiality guidelines and legal documentation requirements as per HIPPA
Enter finalized medical reports received from BMC health center partners via OCHIN web portal
File glass slides and paper requisitions
Maintains files and records according to standards set by JCAHO
slideslocks via BMC COPATH system for current record keeping
Monitor voicemail to respond to messages left on voice mailbox
Monitor fax machines to ensure all faxed reports
requests are being sorted and input into patient’s reports
Utilizes hospital’s Values as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the division’s hospital mission.
Complete all required training in Workday and Media Lab
Compiles information from various input into computer
print and distribute to residents and pathology staff.
Other administrative duties as needed by the pathology department

Ability to answer and triage busy phone service **Position: Medical Transcriptionist** **Department: Pathology Lab** **Schedule: Part Time, 20 hours** **ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:** * Responsible for accessioning surgical and consult specimens, ensuring MRN, DOB, SPECIMEN SITE, REFERRING PHYSICIAN assignments matches with the correct patient.
