Must Have
Obtain and maintain U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, Associate degree in engineering, mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing technology, or equivalent, Technology-related certificate or diploma with related work experience, Intermediate skills using general hand tools, Intermediate skills using precision measurement equipment, Ability to work with general machine shop equipment, Ability to safely handle large optics, Ability to lift 50 lbs, Experience with plumbing related to water chillers, Fundamental knowledge of general electrical hazards, Familiarity with CAD software for shop fabrication drawings, Experience with personal computers and Microsoft Office Suite, Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment

Advanced knowledge of general manufacturing techniques, Significant experience operating machine shop equipment, Experience with complex mechanical fabrication and assembly, Experience working with vacuum and gas pressure systems, Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards, Experience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, Knowledge of additive manufacturing, Knowledge of electronics technology, Experience with pressurized gas systems (<3000 PSI)

We have an opening for a Mechanical Technologist /Senior Mechanical Technologist. You will support ongoing programmatic activities, either independently or in collaboration with engineers, scientists, and technical staff. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, the design of fixtures and assemblies, vacuum system setup and maintenance, gas system setup and maintenance, motion control system setup and maintenance, equipment setup and operation, troubleshooting, hardware modifications, and basic fabrication using common tools and equipment. You will help maintain operation of the facility, target areas, and supporting equipment. This position is in the National Ignition Facility and Photon Science Directorate (NIF & PS). This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division, within the Engineering Directorate specifically at the Jupiter Laser Facility (JLF). This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level. This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.
