Full Job Description
With three manufacturing plants across the UK, Prysmian plays a vital role in delivering energy and cable solutions for customers at home and around the world. We are a global market leader, recognised for innovation across the Energy and Telecoms sectors — and our UK operations are right at the heart of that success. **A truly unique working environment** Based at our Bishopstoke site, the High Voltage Laboratory is a central resource supporting Prysmian’s worldwide manufacturing of high‑voltage power transmission cables. We test some of the most advanced cable systems in the industry — up to one million volts — and this laboratory is the only one of its kind in the UK. **The opportunity** We’re looking for a hands‑on Mechanical Fitter to join our close‑knit laboratory team. This is an excellent opportunity if you enjoy practical, mechanical work and want to apply your skills in a specialist, high‑tech environment rather than a repetitive production role. You’ll be working with heavy‑duty equipment, building and maintaining mechanical rigs, and playing a key role in keeping our test facility operating safely and efficiently. No two days are the same — and your work directly supports critical testing that underpins major energy infrastructure projects worldwide. **What you’ll be doing** * Setting up and adjusting mechanical equipment for laboratory testing * Maintaining, servicing and repairing mechanical test rigs and tools * Carrying out general mechanical fitting tasks to support ongoing operations * Handling and preparing cable sections and components for testing * Undertaking training to develop your skills and broaden your technical knowledge ### **What we’re looking for** * A time‑served apprenticeship or engineering qualification * Strong practical skills and confidence using tools and machinery * A safety‑focused, reliable and self‑motivated approach * Ability to work independently and keep yourself organised * Flexibility with working hours when required t
