## Description Mechanical Engineer (Sheet Metal Manufacturing) Location: Newport News, VA Job Type: Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire Schedule: 1st Shift (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM EST) Pay: Starts at $30.00 (higher based on experience) Position Overview We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support a high-volume sheet metal manufacturing operation. This role will collaborate closely with engineering leadership, production teams, and external partners to develop and refine designs for manufacturability and efficiency. ## What You’ll Do Create and modify mechanical designs to support sheet metal fabrication processes Program CNC equipment used in production, including turret punches, lasers, panel benders, and press brakes Evaluate existing designs and recommend improvements for cost, efficiency, and manufacturability Troubleshoot production challenges and implement practical engineering solutions Manage drawing revisions and product change control processes Communicate regularly with customers and internal teams regarding design updates and production requirements Support continuous improvement initiatives within engineering and manufacturing ## What We’re Looking For Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Strong mathematical skills, including geometry and applied calculations Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) Ability to think critically and solve complex engineering problems Strong communication and collaboration skills Comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-focused environment Willingness to learn sheet metal fabrication processes and CNC programming ## Work Environment This position operates within a dynamic manufacturing setting, requiring close coordination with machine operators, engineers, and production supervisors to meet customer and production goals.
