Full Job Description
ABOUT BASE Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time. ABOUT THE ROLE You will own the infrastructure that lets Base's Markets team turn a fleet of home batteries into a single, profitable grid asset. As a Market Infrastructure Engineer at Base, you will design, build, and operate the platform that runs our production trading algorithms, commands the fleet in real time, and connects Base to wholesale energy markets. This is the layer between the people who decide when and how to trade and the thousands of batteries that actually move power. When the market moves, your systems are what make sure the right decision reaches the right device in time. This is a high-leverage role. The Markets team is small and its decisions move real money on a continuous basis, so the reliability, latency, and observability of the platform you build directly shape how much value the fleet creates. You will work across the algorithms, market operations, backend, and hardware teams to remove bottlenecks, simplify the systems that sit between a trading decision and a battery, and raise the bar for how safely Base participates in live markets. What You’ll Do - Design, build, and operate the production stack that runs Base's trading algorithms and submits bids and offers into the market. - Build and own the integrations with ERCOT, the operator that runs Texas's wholesale electricity market, and other grid operators we expand into, covering bidding, telemetry, dispatch, and settlement. - Build the real-time path between a trading decision and the fleet, so that when an algorithm decides to charge or discharge, that instruction reaches thousands of batteries rel
