Full Job Description
Horace Mann is seeking a dependable and energetic Line Cook to join our culinary team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing high-quality food while maintaining food safety standards, kitchen cleanliness, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is passionate about food preparation, works well in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in delivering excellent meals and service. Key Responsibilities Food Preparation & Cooking Set up and stock food items, ingredients, and supplies needed for daily operations. Prepare food items by cutting, chopping, mixing, and preparing sauces and other ingredients. Cook food items using a variety of methods, including grilling, frying, sautéing, and baking, according to recipes and quality standards. Ensure all food is prepared consistently and presented according to established standards. Food Safety & Sanitation Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations and kitchen areas. Properly handle, label, and store food in compliance with food safety and sanitation requirements. Clean and sanitize cooking surfaces, equipment, and work areas at the end of each shift. Follow all health, safety, and food handling guidelines. Inventory & Operational Support Assist with inventory checks and monitoring of food supplies. Complete food storage and temperature logs accurately. Notify management of inventory shortages, quality concerns, or equipment issues. Support overall kitchen operations and assist team members as needed. Qualifications & Experience Required High School Diploma or GED. 2–3 years of experience as a line cook, restaurant cook, prep cook, or similar food service role. Experience with various cooking methods, kitchen equipment, and food preparation procedures. Ability to follow recipes, directions, and instructions accurately.
