currently or recently (within the last 24 months) employed as a full-time sworn law enforcement officer in the State of duly certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board in good standing, high school diploma or GED, 21 years of age and a U. S. citizen at time of hire, Valid Driver's License and the ability to operate all of the equipment in a police vehicle, Complete State Certified Firearms Training for Police Officers prior to being armed, able to carry a Joliet Junior College Department approved firearm and successfully complete the Police Department Field Training Program, Demonstrated ability to positively interact with a diverse college community, human relations, oral and written communication skills, Problem solving abilities, Pass a thorough background investigation, not possess any felony or misdemeanor convictions in accordance with 50 ILCS 705/6. 1, pass a psychological assessment, medical screening, and drug screening if required for employment, Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence, Demonstrated commitment to the college’s core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality

What You'll Do.
Perform all duties of a department Police Patrol Officer
Interact positively with members of the community on a daily basis
Identify potential problem areas
Assist the department with Crime Prevention in program development and public act as a liaison for the department
Patrol the campus on foot and/or by motor assist pedestrians or motorists in need of assistance
state statutes and College conduct traffic investigations on campus including vehicular traffic enforcement
Identify and report/correct potential safety unlock/secure appropriate buildings/rooms and facilities
Conduct preliminary and follow up criminal investigations and make arrests when necessary
Monitor traffic/parking conditions and provide appropriate direction and/or enforcement as needed
Testify in court and assist local agencies as required
Perform other service/security/police related duties as assigned
