Labcorp is seeking a **Lab Assistant** to join our Environmental Services team in Birmingham, AL. **Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday 5:00am - 1:30pm.** **Job Responsibilities** * Handle, transport, and dispose of regulated medical waste, biohazardous materials, and chemical waste according to OSHA, CDC, and facility guidelines. Replace sharps containers and biohazard waste bins, ensuring proper labeling and segregation. * Assist with spill cleanup under supervision, following appropriate safety protocols. Adhere to infection control standards, PPE requirements, and exposure-control procedures. * Comply with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and OSHA environmental safety standards. Report unsafe conditions, contamination risks, or equipment issues promptly. * Maintain cleanliness of specimen drop-off areas, and laboratory support spaces. * Restock supplies such as disinfectants, PPE, paper products, and waste containers. **Minimum Qualifications** * High school diploma or equivalent **Additional Job Standards** * Comfortability with handling biological specimens * Ability to accurately identify specimens * Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills * Ability to work independently and within a team environment * High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask * Ability to work in a fast paced production environment and meet established turn-around times * Strong communication skills; both written and verbal * Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position * Able to pass a standardized color blindness test * Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs At Labcorp we have a passion for helping people live happy and healthy lives.
