Eligibility Requirements

visual acuity adequate to perform position duties, ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds, Comply with safety principles, laws, regulations, and standards associated with, but not limited to, CMS, The Joint Commission, DHHS, and OSHA if applicable.

Bachelor's epidemiology, microbiology, medial technology, public health, healthcare delivery, laboratory science or other healthcare science, Certified In Infection Control - Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC) ​Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) within 3 Years

Nice to Have

Registered Nurse (RN) - Board of Nursing Active in state of practice., Licensed Practical Nurse (Single) - Board of Nursing Active in state of practice., Completed specialized training in infection prevention and control, Relevant experience, Team leader or supervisor experience

What You'll Do.

managing and evaluating all aspects of the Infection Prevention

consultation related to asepsis

investigation and follow-up of possible employee exposure to communicable illness or other infection-related issues

Ensures that policies

infection–related studies and the IP Program are consistent with national standards and/or other evidence-based in accordance with current Federal

State and Local standards

guidelines and regulations

Responsible for: Developing policies governing control of infections and communicable diseases

Implementing policies governing control of infections and communicable diseases

Developing a system for identifying

and controlling infections and communicable diseases

Insure prompt reporting of communicable diseases to the Department of Health.

Advise staff on setting up appropriate plan of care for patients with infectious disease.

Ensure that major changes in cleaning products or techniques in use in the facility are approved by the Quality Care Committee.

Make regular rounds to the nursing units

lab and patient related departments to discuss possible infection control problems with team leader or Department Director or other associates involved with infection prevention.

Based on the Risk Assessment identify opportunities for improvement

identify action plans and report outcomes on a regular basis to the Quality Care Committee.

Using epidemiologic principles

analyzes trends and investigates infections to identify clusters

infections of epidemiologic significance

and with the Quality Care Committee

determines appropriate actions to be taken.

and maintains data bases for data related in internal and external infection prevention initiatives and performs statistical analysis.

Coordinates infection prevention education efforts

including surveillance for medical associates

and outreach consultation and education in infection prevention.

revises and advises relating to infection prevention policies and procedures

including those policies for procedures to be followed for special infection- related precautions

sterilization and disinfection.

Collaborates with Avera System Infection Preventionists in developing

implementing and reporting system-wide infection related metrics

policies and practices.
