Full Job Description

Position Summary The In-House Design Supervising Project Manager will support MassDOT – Highway Division’s annual Statewide Road Advertising Program and the In-House Design Manager.  He/she will supervise lower-level Engineers in the Highway Design section’s In-House Design Group. The position affords generous work ‐ from ‐ home opportunity with the occasional trips into the office. Duties and Responsibilities Advancing the design of transportation improvement projects in an efficient and transparent manner. Managing moderate to complex projects with little supervision. Maintaining accurate information in the Highway Division’s project database (currently Project Info) and striving to advertise projects for construction in the programmed State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) year. Demonstrating an understanding of the Highway Division’s Project Development and Design Guide and the Standard Specifications for Highways and Bridges. Performing thorough reviews of Plans, Specifications Estimates, and Reports for compliance to Highway Division standards prior to project submittals. Conducting Design Public Hearings and Public Informational Meetings; correspond by e ‐ mail, letter, and phone. For In-house projects, is directly responsible for the preparation of, or supervising and coordinating the activities of direct reports and junior staff in the preparation of, conceptual designs, feasibility studies, roadway designs, CAD models, and contract documents.  Coordinates project development with other Sections, Divisions, and agencies.  Provides training to less senior In-house staff. Reviews or supervises the review, in accordance with internal QA/QC policies, of designs and reports which may include design exception reports/design justification workbooks roadway geometry, CAD models, traffic analysis, functional design reports, environmental documents, and contract documents including Preliminary Contract Estimates, Earth Work Sheets, Detail Sheets, Special Pro
