What You'll Achieve.
Ensure assigned programs conform to federal and state regulations and University and EH&S policies; Accountable for program results and success; Sustain a culture of service, quality, accountability and excellence; Maintain compliance with industry standards and regulatory, license, and institutional requirements; Improve efficiency of operations; Ensure records are complete, current, and managed; Maintain a compliant and effective program; Ensure operators are trained and able to perform safe operation; Ensure corrective actions are performed; Assure compliance with exposure limits
Industry & Context.
Address discrepancies identified during inspections and audits; Investigate packages that do not pass required surveys; Investigate radiation instruments that do not pass calibration; Investigate instances when contamination is found; follow up with device owners to ensure corrective actions are performed
Requires working in environments that contain radioactive and other hazardous materials and/or radiation emitting equipment, Requires frequent travel within the main UW Seattle campus, Requires occasional travel to various UW decentralized offices and lab, Licensed to operate a motor vehicle in the state of Washington, Fingerprint check and FBI criminal background verification required
What They're Looking For.
Must Have
Bachelor's degree in health physics, engineering, or science, 4 years of professional experience in radiation safety, health physics, or related field, Demonstrated ability to make professional judgments based on radiation safety principles and practices, Familiarity with various types of ionizing radiation sources including unsealed radioactive materials and sealed sources, Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software, Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
Nice to Have
Advanced degree(s) in Health Physics, Engineering, or Science, Radiation safety experience in a university setting

Manage and administer radiation safety programs
Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and University and EH&S policies
Develop and maintain policies
Manage Radioactive Material Shipping and Receiving Program
Manage Radiation Detection Instrument Calibration Program
Manage Radioactive Material Survey and Inspection Program
Manage Radiation Producing Machine Survey and Inspection Program
Provide support to Radiation Safety Section
Collaborate with EH&S technical groups
