What They're Looking For.
Must Have
5+ years of hands-on technical experience in mechanical, electrical, computer, automotive, or robotics industries, Demonstrated ability to assemble prototypes, build wiring harnesses, and follow engineering instructions precisely, understanding of schematics, datasheets, and the ability to interpret them accurately, Experience soldering, crimping, and working with cable management in lab or shop environments, Proficiency with tools and equipment including 3D printers, diagnostic instruments, and common shop power tools and machinery, Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and solving difficult technical challenges, Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a ability to manage inventory systems, Willingness to work on-site and in the field (possible non-climate-controlled environments and inclement weather) as needed, Able to lift up to 40 lbs and work in a hands-on lab/warehouse environment
Nice to Have
Valid U. S. drivers license required and a successful completion of MVR required, Skills in manual machining, welding, composites, or other fabrication techniques, Background in automotive repair or vehicle system maintenance, Hobbies building robots, RC Cars Boats or Drones or playing with Arduinos/RPIs, Knowledge of CAD software (Solidworks, Onshape etc) for 3D model navigation and design edits, Familiarity with Python or other programming languages for automation or troubleshooting, Experience with Linux for robotic system testing and integration, Through-hole and Surface Mount (SMD) (SMT) PCB soldering, Experience working with AV hardware such as LiDARs, radars, and cameras, Ability to design and prototype custom wiring harnesses and understand harness drawings

Tackle novel technical challenges in electromechanical systems and vehicle platforms
and troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems
including test platforms and robotic vehicles
Own the end-to-end build and delivery of test fixtures and prototypes
Develop and create wiring harnesses
assemble compute systems

Perform root cause analysis
and diagnostics on vehicle and computer systems
Maintain a structured inventory and lab environment
Manage procurement of key components and maintain relationships with suppliers

About the Team DoorDash Labs is an independent team within DoorDash. We are working on building autonomous delivery robots from the ground up and other automation solutions as part of DoorDash's core delivery platform. Please Note: This role is based in San Francisco, CA, and requires in-person 5 days a week, plus availability for on-site interviews. No relocation assistance. About the Role We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Hardware Prototype Engineering Technician to join our team. In this hands-on role, you will help service and assemble the next generation of robotic systems within DoorDash Labs. You will own the end-to-end buildout of test platforms and be responsible for delivering complete test fixtures to internal and external customers. You’ll work with a thoughtful, dynamic team of engineers to develop test systems, maintain shop operations, and contribute to a growing service and development capability for cutting-edge robotics. You’ll work closely with hardware and service engineering teams to tackle novel technical challenges in electromechanical systems and vehicle platforms. This is a role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and is passionate about building and refining robotic systems.
