Eligibility Requirements

Residency requirements, Telephone required, Wildland firefighter duties, Responds to wildfires, Responds to other natural and human-caused emergencies and disasters, Participates on incident management teams, May lead or assist in basic criminal law enforcement investigations, Work hours are typically 8-5 M-F, Some work functions require evening, holiday and/or weekend work, Wildfire and emergency response requires year-round readiness 24 hrs/day, 7 days/week, Overnight travel up to 18 continuous days may be required, Must be able to be on-call 24 hours/day, 7 days per week, Occasional heavy lifting required, Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license required within 90 days of hire, Pre-employment drug testing, Pre-employment DMV physicals, Obtain a U. S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) medical certificate prior to employment

What You'll Do.

Oversee fire/all-risk training

Manage equipment readiness

Maintain facility maintenance/improvement

Oversee purchasing throughout the district

Provide technical expertise in fire control

Develop fire strategies and tactics

Provide law enforcement support

Conduct fire control & safety training

Train cooperating agency personnel

Assist with statewide training

Implement ICS at district and state level

Serve as initial attack IC & OPS Chief

Fill OPS roles on regional & state IMTs

Assist county personnel with fire suppression

Advise District Forester

Ensure quality and accuracy of fire reports

Serve as liaison with fire suppression

Serve as district coordinator for western fire

Provide technical assistance in determining fire cause

Serve as district safety committee chairman

Serve on regional and state safety committees

Lead RAWS system and NFDRS

Obtain burning plan approval authority

Provide direction & oversight of cooperative programs

Manage Repair and Renovation project

Requisition supplies & equipment

Maintain district uniform

Manage state & federal inventory systems

Complete Ranger Training

Perform wildland firefighter duties

Respond to emergencies and disasters

Participate on incident management teams

Lead or assist in criminal law enforcement investigations

Be on-call 24 hours/day
