Must Have

Associate degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum, two (2) years of progressive technician level or an equivalent combination of education and experience, Ability to effectively use verbal and nonverbal skills to express routing or simple technical and/or program concepts and related facts in a clear, concise, organized manner, Ability to work safely in both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to extreme temperatures and construction site hazards such as traffic, heights, and uneven terrain, Moderate physical activity including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing is required, Must be able to lift 50lbs, legally operate a motor vehicle, Safety Toe Shoes Required

General knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC repairs, Experience conducting independent, moderately complex inspections, with limited supervision, Skill in evaluating and applying engineering judgment to construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures, Experience maintaining neat, legible and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry, Experience inspecting contracts such as routine mowing, long arm mowing, litter removal, string trimming, roadway sweeping and plant bed maintenance/mulching, Working knowledge of Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Procedures

This posting is for an Engineering Technician II position that will serve as the inspector for all contractual operations at the Division 8 Rest Areas and Welcome Centers, including janitorial services, grounds maintenance, and facility maintenance and renovations. This position is located in the Carthage Division 8 Roadside Environmental Unit which is responsible for vegetation management, development and monitoring of contracts, and permitting to the private sector. This unit is also responsible for ensuring all work adheres to the 1973 Sedimentation Pollution Control Act, the NC Department of Agriculture Pesticide Division's regulations, OSHA and all other Federal, State or Local laws and ordinances governing the work involved. Employee will be required to work with the contractors and their staff to ensure proper operation 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, 52 weeks/year which includes night and weekend inspections and emergency closures due to hazardous spills, accidents, snow and ice, etc. General knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC repairs is preferred.
