What They're Looking For.

Must Have

Associate's degree in an applicable area of engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution and six (6) years of progressive technician or High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and eight (8) years of progressive technician or an equivalent combination of education and experience, Moderate to advanced understanding of drafting techniques for highway related structures including design, rehabilitation, preservation, or critical repair projects, Ability to climb bridge structures and scaffolds, Ability to keep accurate notes and records

Nice to Have

Experience drafting and checking moderately complex highway structure plans for new construction for completeness, accuracy, and clarity, Experience drafting and checking moderately complex highway structure plans for preservation, rehabilitation, and repair for completeness, accuracy, and clarity, Experience completing and checking final computations and quantities for highway structure plans, Working knowledge of software including CADD and MS Office, Experience participating in a collaborative manner during the completion of tasks or assignments

What You'll Do.

Prepare contract plans for Preservation

and Repair (PRR) and Emergency repairs for Existing Structures

Read and understand old designs and plans

Read structure inspection reports

Read field scoping notes

Prepare contract plans for new or replacement structures

Layout and plan preparation of bridges

culverts and other structures

Load rating existing structures

Study bridge inspection reports

Evaluate structural condition of bridges

Utilize advanced software to determine safe load carrying capacities

Evaluate maintenance proposals for upgrades and repairs

How You'll Work.

Team & Collaboration

Communicate with internal and external partners; Written and verbal communication of moderately complex engineering concepts with colleagues; Communication with other NCDOT units and Division personnel

Written and verbal communication of moderately complex engineering concepts; Explain/write related facts in a clear, concise and organized manner; Listen to and respond appropriately to others
