What They're Looking For.
Must Have
Proven experience leading high‑performing engineering teams within a complex, enterprise environment, hands‑on technical background in at least one core technology stack, such as Java, Spring Boot, REST / Microservices, or React, Solid fundamentals in testing practices, including JUnit, mutation testing, component testing, and integration testing, understanding and practical experience with Agile / SAFe Agile delivery models, Experience with modern engineering practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, DevOps, and continuous improvement, Excellent planning, prioritisation, and decision‑making skills, with the ability to balance delivery, quality, and technical debt, Demonstrated ability to mentor, develop, and retain engineering talent, fostering a culture of continuous learning and accountability, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead teams through ambiguity and change
Nice to Have
Experience delivering cloud‑native or platform‑based solutions, understanding of engineering productivity and quality metrics, such as DORA and SPACE, and their application to drive improvement, Experience working in large‑scale, regulated enterprise environments, Exposure to AI‑assisted engineering tools (e. g. Claude), leveraging them to improve developer productivity, quality, and decision‑making
